Hello Stephanie. I really enjoyed reading your quotes. They were very inspirational.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciated your quote by Leong. I find that the idea of putting children on medicine for ADHD is out of control. Even in my own school, I have seen colleagues jump to the conclusion that a child needs to be medicated within the first week they are in their classroom. Medication for ADHA is serious and shouldn't be suggested lightly. I would love to see other methods of harnessing the child's attention and interest before medicine is an option. We recently went through this with our daughter. she was repeating kindergarten last year and her teacher suggested that she needed medicine because she rarely paid attention while on the group carpet. When we asked her why she didn't pay attention, and her response was because she had heard all of the stories before. This year in 1st grade, I am happy to say that she is doing much better and I feel that it is because she is highly engaged in her learning. It is something that we as teachers really need to consider. Thanks, Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteI also used the last quote in my post. I had the passion since I was a little girl to be a teacher as I got older I tried to stray away from teaching but when I started college the passion would not leave. I know that this is the calling on my life because I love it with my whole heart.
