I hardly ever get to sit down to watch any show because my little darlings keep me very busy! So I chose to sit down and see what the hype was with a show titled "Jersey Shore". I wanted to see what the fascination was with a girl known as Snooki! So I first watched it with no sound and found that these adults communicate a lot through fighting, hand gestures, and facial expressions. It took place in what looked like a club a lot of the time which lead to communicating with tears, falling down, dancing, and chaotic fist fights. So needless to say I was anxiously awaiting to turn the sound on to see what all this drama was about.
So when I turned the sound on I learned these people live in a house together in New Jersey. They work at a t-shirt shop during the day and at night they go out and get wasted which leads them to emotions just flying every where. It was evident that these peoples biggest worries were who can drink the most and who they were going to bring back to their shore house. They were living life up for sure. They communicated by talking, laughing, crying, spreading love, facial expressions, dancing, and hand gestures. It did make me laugh just to see how silly they acted when they communicated. I thought this assignment was very fun and unique and really enjoyed completing it!
I've only watched one episode of Jersey Shore and I never understood the hype. I always thought they communicated so negitevely with each other and it was almost embrassing to watch this. I know it is a show, but I wondered, did people really do these things and communicate in this way? Like you, I enjoyed completing this assignment and it gave me a chance to watch a show I had never seen before. It is amazing how much you can pick up on without sound by just observing how people are interacting together.
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie, I too enjoyed this assignment. I do not have television, and have not had TV for over 12 years, but even with that said, I have heard of "Jersey Shore". Beyond that I knew/know nothing. From your description it does not sound like the kind of show I would spend a lot of time with. What's interesting to me is that so many other people seem to enjoy it. I've often wondered what it is about the personality of individuals that make some shows so appealing and some of little to no interest at all. Seems like an interesting research study.
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteBecause of your description of the show, I think that people in reality shows care less about their performance, because it is supposed they have to be just who they are, so rude by the way.
Your post reminded me the influence that context has in our communication. I don’t think the people in the show do, talk, and behave the same in their t-shirt shop, their house, and the clubs… or maybe they do because they are being recorded.
Thanks for sharing!
